When it comes to apps, downloads really has no meaning. What matters is the usage.
WhichApp has published a report ‘India App Insights 2015’ and the results are based on data from Whichapp users.
Top apps in popular categories have been compared and the top apps have been selected on the number of installations and not downloads.
Ride-sharing apps
According to the report, Ola is leading the market and apparently has double the userbase, compared to its rival Uber. Meru Cabs has been lagging and still needs to catch up in mobile.
Food-Tech apps
The report states that Zomato is bigger even when compared to TinyOwl and Foodpanda put together. Also, Fasoos though forayed late into the market has catched up pretty well.
News Aggregator Apps
DailyHunt has topped the list in this category and InShorts is the only competion the company has.
E-commerce Apps
Flipkart has topped compared to the other apps and was followed by PayTM. Snapdeal, Amazon and Myntra followed the list.
Dating Apps
Among all the dating apps, Tinder has topped the list which is quite expected. But interestingly, it the top app only for men. TrulyMadly is the preferred app by women.
Game Apps
Candy Crush has emerged as the top app followed by Subway Surfer, Candy Crush Soda. Teen Patti, an Indian game was ranked in the top 5 list.
Hyper-Local Apps
The report states that Urban Clap has topped the list in this category, followed by Local Oye and House Joy.
Grocery Apps
In this new upcoming space, Grofers is leading. Peppertap and Big Basket are witnessing a neck-to-neck competition.
Mobile Wallets
According to the data, PayTM is leading in the space and is bigger even if Freecharge and Mobikwik put together.
Jobs Apps
Among all the job app, Naukri is leading in the category, ahead of Job Search and Indeed.
Matrimonial Apps
With no new entries in this category, Shaadi has been at the top. Its followed by Bharat Matrimony and Jeevansathi.
Music Apps
The top musics apps are Saavn and Gaana. Wynk Music and Hungama are ranked at third and fourth position respectively.
Rental Apps
Housing and Magic Bricks are leading in this space. Common Floor which recently got acquired by Quikr is expected to accelerate in 2016.
Travel Booking Apps
Interestingly, Government owned IRCTC Connect is leading in this category, followed by Make My Trip. A number of players are relatively doing well in this space.
