India’s leading mobile operator Bharti Airtel has crossed the 200 million mobile subscribers mark in the country.
Airtel’s distribution channel is spread across 1.5 Mn outlets, with network presence in 5,121 census and 460,655 non-census towns and villages across India
The company had reported a jump of 2.15 times in consolidated quarterly profit during October-December 2013 quarter.
Airtel’s Mobile Internet business also clocked a revenue of Rs.1,736 crore, a jump of 105.2% over the same period in 2012. What’s also interesting is that the mobile internet revenue accounted for more than one-third of the overall incremental revenue for the company.
Its mobile data customer base also saw an increase of 31.2% to reach 54.4 Mn customers.
Bharti Airtel and Loop Mobile yesterday announced a strategic agreement for their operations in Mumbai service area. Under the new agreement, Loop Mobile’s 3 million subscribers in Mumbai will join Airtel’s over 4 million subscribers bringin Airtels total subscriber base in Mumbai to 7 million.
Earlier this month the operator launched the first 4G on mobile service in Bangalore for iPhone 5S and 5C users.
