3G Auction is over – PAN India License to cost Rs. 16,828 Cr

3G auction is over and pan India license has touched Rs. 16,828 crores. Bharti, Idea and Vodafone Essar have won in some of the circles in the auction that lasted 34 days.

Interesting to note that both BSNL and MTNL will have to pay the PAN India license fee, i.e. Rs, 16,828 crore. Government has earned Rs. 70,000 Crore from the auction though the base price was set at Rs. 35,000 Crores. The winning firms will have to deposit the money within 10 days from now.

The successful bidders would be allowed to offer 3G services on a commercial basis from Sep 1.

How much will you pay for the service?

Expect a sky rocketing price for most of the 3G service as the winning companies will have to raise fund in order to pay for the spectrum. 3G services will go through the initial adopter curve and probably come at a premium.
