Accel Partners to invest $5mn in Sachin Tendulkar’s Universal Collectabillia

Accel Partners has invested $5mn in Universal Collectabillia, a celebrity merchandise and brand extension firm.collectabillia-logo The fund has committed $5mn in the startup, which is jointly owned by Anjana Reddy, who is part of the Deccan Chronicle family, and Sachin Tendulkar who owns 26% stake in the company (via).

Collectabillia essentially enables celebrities to enable auction of their merchandise and has deals with stars like Rajnikanth, Dhoni, Sania Mirza and of course, Tendulkar.

At the time of writing this post, the site was inaccessible (maintenance mode) and company’s twitter account was last updated in the month of May.

The company, Universal Collectabillia Private Limited also had a presence in Tata Sky (“Channel 100”), under which it sold cricketing memorabilia autographed by Sachin Tendulkar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh (each memorabilia had a pre-defined price with the minimum bid starting at Rs. 2500/).
