The Need For a Better Adsense Alternative, Build it now!

Continuing from point about Google’s Control on web and need for being self dependent.

So what happens if your franchisee network, the great Google, suddenly turns the switch off? Or even if it just regulates it a bit? You die? You are out of business? Let’s say if there is no Maps, what happens to 4Sq? If there is no Adsense what happens to you? What happens to your blog?

We start looking for alternatives. Everyone will look for alternative. Something that is even close to Google is enough. Something that gives one of the services that Google gives, the way Google gives is enough.

Of all the services that Google offers my biggest bet is on Adsense. There is no service that is even close to Adsense in any manner, atleast not in India. There are a bunch of adnetworks but none of them come even close to what Adsense does. Some of the biggest Indian adnetworks work on eCPM of Rs.4. Some will take your whole space but will pay you only when a sales is closed within 5hrs of clicking on the link. Now think of yourself as normal web user, do you really click on an ad and register on a matrimonial site or a job site? Or for that matter do you buy a travel ticket after clicking on a banner ad, that has an expired deal? How often?

And still site owners are putting up ads from such ad networks. The desperation for an Adsense alternative is so much that they give up free branding space in the name of CPA ads.

My point here is there is an opportunity in creating a Google Adsense clone. The exact service is needed, nothing less, maybe more. The reason the current ad networks are not doing or not able to do that is because they are run by sales guys. People who have been in the mainstream media trading or in the business of selling financial products.

What is needed is a marketeer and a techie to build an adnetwork that is not ruled by sales guys who do not understand the power of technology and the ever evolving nature of web and human interaction. Marketeers who can vouch for the ad space they are selling and techie who can help get the best interaction and targeting out of that space can build a true solution. It is not to be touched by sales guys who lower prices in desperation of closing a deal.
