AI Could be the ‘Worst Thing to Happen to Humanity’, Warns Stephen Hawking

Prof. Stephen Hawking, the world-renowned physicist and cosmologist, and perhaps the most vocal critic of artificial intelligence has said that the invention could be the biggest disaster in humanity’s history, warning that if not properly managed, it could be used as powerful autonomous weapons to “oppress” others.

Prof. Hawking was speaking at the opening of the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI) at Cambridge University, an institute dedicated to researching the future of AI.

Although he praised the positives that AI research can bring, however, he cautioned that “the development of full Artificial Intelligence could spell the end of the human race”.
