How India used AI to calculate the Tiger population

It took the scientists, 3.5 crore pictures from camera traps, out of which 76,523 captured tigers, to complete the tiger head count.

AI( Artificial Intelligence) was used to conclude the presence of 3,000 in India in 2018. The fourth cycle of All India Tiger Estimation released by the Prime Minister on Monday showed that India achieved the target of doubling the wild cat population.

The tiger census was carried out in a span of 1.5 years and individual identification was done through pattern recognition programs ExtractCompare. Implementation of conservation initiatives helped provide conducive atmosphere for tiger breeding.
