Airtel subscribers in Bangalore who also own an iPhone 5S/5C, will receive the first 4G mobile services in India.
Users only have to change the existing SIM of their mobile phones to 4G sims to access the service. The cost for the 4G data plan will remain the same as that of the 3G plan.
The service will be available for both prepaid and postpaid customers of Airtel. Users who subscribe to 2G/GPRS data plans can receive the 4G speeds by upgrading to the 3G plans. In addition to this, the company has also introduced a new 4G plan where users can access 10 GB 4G data for Rs 1000. (Details here)
The company has not disclosed when the service will be available for other mobile phones. Airtel also claims that with their 4G services video streaming will have zero video buffering issues, though we recommend that you take it with a pinch of salt (read NextBigWhat review of Airtel 4G).
While the country moves on to 4G, we have to ask: have we received the best of 3G yet?
