Online retailing giant Amazon, which went live with its marketplace  in the country last week, has now launched its popular affiliate program for bloggers and website owners in India. The quiet launch, was spotted by the Digital Inspirations blog. Amazon pays out a 10% commission up to 10% commission to affiliates on each sale. In comparison, existing e-commerce players only pay out 5-7% as commissions.

How does it work?

To get started, bloggers or website owners need to go to affiliate-program.amazon.in (link) and sign-in with an Amazon account. After filling up a form, the company will approve your site in 24 hours. Approved sites can post affiliate links and make money by getting visitors to buy from Amazon. Bloggers or website owners can build affiliated HTML links from their Amazon Associates (link) dashboard. All products listed on the Amazon website primarily have an unique ASIN code and for printed books, this ASIN code is similar to 10-digit ISBN code usually marked on books.

Higher commissions means affiliate sellers would naturally drift towards Amazon. It remains to be seen how Flipkart, Snapdeal and others deal with this.
