The launch comes a few weeks after rival e-commerce site Flipkart launched its native Android application.
With the Amazon android app, users can also view recommendations, customer reviews and add to their wish lists through the app.
Customers who were already using the Android app for the international Amazon stores can switch the country to India and shop on Amazon.in.
The Amazon App can be downloaded from the Google play or through Android Market and Amazon Appstore.
In June this year Amazon launched its popular affiliate program in India. The company pays up to 10% commission to affiliates on each sale. In comparison, existing e-commerce players only pay out 5-7% as commissions.
Also earlier in May, Amazon expanded the list of countries that the Amazon Appstore is available to include India. The Appstore was launched in India along with the full suite of devices in June.
Earlier today, Flipkart announced that it raised a total of $360 mn from investors.
