With Its New Fulfillment Center In Bangalore, Amazon To Improve Service In The Region

Amazon Logo has opened its new fulfillment center in Bangalore, its second center in India after Mumbai. The new 150,000 square feet fulfillment center will be operational by February for both inbound and outbound services.

This new center will enable Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs), existing and new retailers, from South India access to Amazon’s fulfillment capabilities. Once the services begin, customers in the region can expect better selection categories, quicker shipments and Amazon’s Next-Day Guaranteed service.

Amazon’s fulfillment centers are warehouses where online retailers who use ‘Fulfillment by Amazon’ (FBA) services, stock their inventory of their products. Such sellers need to send their products to Amazon’s centers and once an order is placed, the center packs and ships the order to the customer without the sellers having to do anything.

Orders fulfilled by Amazon are eligible for Cash on Delivery (COD), Free Delivery promotions, and Guaranteed Next-Day delivery.

Amazon’s Mumbai fulfillment centre, located in Bhiwandi, is also spread across 150,000 square-feet area

In 2012 Amazon acquired Kiva Systems, a company that manufactures automated warehouse management systems, for $775 million.

We recently covered Gurgaon based startup Grey Orange Robotics (GOR) who also operate in the field of robotics and their products are revolutionising warehouse management of many e-tailing companies in the country.
