Just two weeks ago, The Amazon App Store Launched in India and the Kindle Fire HD was made available in 170 countries, But we wondered why India was missing from that list. The reason is obivious now, that they were first waiting to launch Amazon.in
Kindle Fire HD
The Kindle Fire has a whole lot of features including an HD display with in-plane switching and Advanced True Wide polarizing filter. It has Dolby audio and dual stereo speakers and has a dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi that switches between the 2.4 GHz network and the less crowded 5 GHz network, resulting in better range and less interference. It has a front facing camera and the company claims that it has a battery life of over 10 hours. The Kindle Fire HD is available with 16 GB or 32 GB of on-device storage.
With Amazon’s WHispersync technology, users can automatically save and synchronize the last read page read, bookmarks, notes and highlights across Kindle apps and Kindle devices.
An important point to note is that the Kindle Fire devices do not have access to the Google Play Store but can access the Kindle appstore which has a curated section of 1.9 million of apps, games and books. There are global apps as well as Indian apps like Zomato, Dhingana, ErosNow, ESPNcricinfo, MapmyIndia, MakeMyTrip and NDTV.
Kindle Paperwhite & Kindle
The Kindle is just 170 grams. It has a 6-inch electronic ink display while the Paperwhite has 62% more pixels and 25% increased contrast compared to the previous generation Kindle. It has 8 weeks of battery life. It is lighter and thinner than a magazine.
An interesting thing with the Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi + 3G is that it comes with a free 3G connection. Amazon will pay for the 3G connection and there is no monthly fees. We are not sure how this will work and what carrier Amazon has tied up with.
India Kindle Store
The India Kindle Store has a selection of 1.7 million books priced in Rupees, including 82 of 100 Nielsen India Bookscan Best Sellers. Indian customers can get 600,000 books priced at Rs 200 or less and over 1.2 million priced at Rs 600 or less. There are also 325,000 Kindle-exclusive titles.
