Tech Around WWWorld–Amazon Selling more E-Books than Hardcover Books

Amazon sold more E-books than hardcover books in the first three months of 2010.

Amazon said, it sold 143 Kindle books for every 100 hardcover books, including hardcovers for which there is no Kindle edition.

The pace of change is quickening, too, Amazon said. In the last four weeks sales rose to 180 digital books for every 100 hardcover copies. Amazon has 630,000 Kindle books, a small fraction of the millions of books sold on the site. [source]

What’s interesting is that the figures do not include sales of free Kindle books.

Nokia Siemens Networks to Acquire Motorola’s wireless network

Nokia Siemens Network will acquire certain wireless network infrastructure assets of Motorola for $1.2Bn. The companies expect to complete closing activities by the end of 2010, subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approvals.

Nokia Siemens Networks expects that based on revenue, with the addition of the Motorola wireless network infrastructure business, it will become the #3 wireless infrastructure vendor in the United States, the #1 foreign wireless vendor in Japan, and strengthen its current #2 position in the global infrastructure segment.

Motorola’s networks infrastructure business provides products and services for wireless networks, including GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, WiMAX and LTE. This business is a market leader in WiMAX, with 41 contracts in 21 countries; has a strong global footprint in CDMA with 30 active networks in 22 countries; and a robust GSM installed base, with more than 80 active networks in 66 countries; and excellent traction with LTE early adopters.[source]

Adobe to Launch Publishing Software for Tablets

Adobe will release a software (late this summer) that will include tools that will enable publishers to add interactivity without writing code.

“Late this summer, we’ll post these new publishing technologies on Adobe Labs so a broad set of media, corporate and retail catalog publishers will be able to create compelling content experiences. Using this Digital Magazine Solution, these publishers can create immersive content without having to hire additional developers or invest in extensive retraining for staff. Publishers can add interactivity without writing code via InDesign and create monetizable digital magazines for the Apple iPad – with other platforms and devices expected in the future.” [more]

Apple vs. Microsoft

This quarter? Or the next one? Well, its just a matter of few quarters and Apple beats Microsoft in terms of market capitalization.

Apple will announce its quarterly earnings on Tuesday and Microsoft on Thursday.

While Apple will surpass Microsoft in revenue in the near future, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Apple automatically deserves a larger market capitalization. But it does appear that Apple will not only record more revenue than Microsoft, it will also eventually (within the next few years) earn more in net income, generate a larger amount of cash, and outpace Microsoft in terms of growth in net income and revenue.
