According to WSJ, the company confirmed the acquisition, but in its typical style declined to comment on the purpose or plans.
LinX develops cameras for smartphones and tablets that can capture multiple images at the same time, and using algorithms can gauge depth and create 3D image maps.
The company claims its technology can allow better picture quality in low-light and faster exposure in standard indoor conditions.
Apple’s acquisition of LinX is pretty straightforward. The company is currently considered to be the leader in the smartphone imaging department, and with LinX’s acquisition plans to stay there.
LinX will help bring features such as automatic background removal, 3-D object modeling and face recognition, which rivals like Intel and Google are already working on.
