Among the many enhancements that the language will get, the addition of Objective C generics, a faster debug mode and C function pointer APIs are some of the biggest.

Apple will also make available a migrator tool to help developers move from version 1.2 to version 2 more easily, despite the many changes outlined.

Swift will be entirely open source in the coming weeks and the company plans to roll out compilers for OS X and Linux by the end of this year.
