April 1 Product Launches and YouTube Closing Down!

Today is April 1st, and you all know what that means. It is the day when the largest number of products are launched.

Google Announces New Services; Closure of YouTube

Google which recently underwent a spring cleaning and shut down multiple products, today announced the addition of many services as well as the closure of YouTube which it says was just one 8-year competition. To remind everyone Gmail was actually launched on April 1,2004.

Google Nose promises “to offer the sharpest olfactory experience available.” It enables users to search for smells. The product intersects “photons with infrasound waves” and “temporarily aligns molecules to emulate a particular scent.” The “mobile aroma indexing program” at the heart of the product has amassed a “15 million scentibyte database of smells from around the world.” More about it here.

Gmail Blue is the all ‘new’ Gmail  adds which a blue tint to the Gmail web app.

The maps team have come up with two products. The first, Google SCHMICK based out of Australia allows you to view your home on Google Maps Street View, and ‘decorate’ your house with themes. The Maps team also launched Treasure Map that has clues spread in cities across the world that would unveil an ancient treasure. You can also get additional clues on the Google+ page.

Google Play Developer Console gets new features. When adding a new app to Google Play, you now have an option to “Add New Awesome Application”. If you use this Google will help you build a new app based on “advanced machine learning algorithms”.

Google Analytics now showing Space Station Traffic. The real time section of Google Analytics is now also showing traffic from the International Space Station.

Google+ received an update titled ‘Google+ Photos +Emotion’. The update allows you to add emoticons to photos to express peoples feelings in the picture.


YouTube is closing down after 8 years. Looks like YouTube was just a giant competition to find the best video on the Internet. And now the site is finally closing after receiving millions  submissions. The winner will be announced in 10 years, after judges go through each video.

Samsung Eco Trees


Samsung Electronics went green by announcing Eco Trees, a smart, eco-friendly air purifier that runs on solar energy. The Eco Trees have various features like S Buds that blossom. Through these S Buds, Eco Trees not only clean the air, but also provide fragrance over-the-air. Eco Trees also provide SMART Cooling, an eco-friendly cooling effect on the surrounding area. Nokia Announces its First Microwave oven


Nokia announced the launch of the 5AM-TH1N6 Constellation, a touch-screen microwave oven. The Constellation sets itself apart with a superfast, water-cooled 8-core high-voltage transformer, which brings a combined performance of 5,000 watts to end-users, letting them heat up turnkey meal solutions within seconds. The device also comes with the latest eye-tracking technology, which stops the food from rotating when you look at it, and automatically adjusts the temperature depending on how hungry you look. Pay to use Vowels on Twitter


Twitter announced today that it will be shifting to a two-tiered service – a free version called Twttr, where users can only use consonants, and the full Twitter service in which users can use vowels but will have to pay $5 per month. Twitter users can will also be able to bid for one additional character to write 141 character tweets instead of the regular 140 characters. Twitter says Twttr will be initially rolled out to a small percentage of users with a wider roll-out in coming days. Read more here.

Just after the highly successful launch of SwiftKey 4, comes SwiftKey Tilt which transforms everyday activities of typing into a whole-body, immersive experience. Sony Launches Line of Products for Animals

Sony has launched a whole range of products for animals with the launch of its Animalia line of products, which includes a TV for dogs and cat headphones. The K9 4K TV is specially calibrated for dogs by maximizing blue and yellow tones while discarding green and red ones — all at a 4K resolution. It also comes with a “paw friendly” two-button remote with controls for “play” and Skype, so dogs can talk to their owners anytime. The M3-OW KittyCans are a set of headphones for cats to pretend to be listening to music. There is also In-Cage speakers for hamsters,. which are capsule-sized and pump “energetic music” into the cage.

Instagram Finally Comes to Windows Phone


Looks like Windows Phone is finally getting all the love and a Nokia campaign to get Instagram on Windows Phone has worked. The photo sharing app which is popular on both iOS and Android has appeared on the Windows Store. The app is not a direct port of the Android or iOS app and is actually fits quite well into the Windows Phone guidelines. Hike Launches Mail Service


The makers of messaging app Hike have released Hike2Post which allows users of their regular app to send free mail  to anyone, anywhere in the world. Hike2Post can be found in the Rewards portion of the app. Do give it a try and let us know how long it takes for the post to be delivered.

Flipkart Announces Delivery of Cash


Flipkart has announced on its website and Facebook page a new service called Delivery of Cash (DOC), which is an ATM-like service at home. DOC essentially brings an ATM right to your doorsteps so you won’t have to step out of your home to take out hard cash. The page states – “Two years after the launch of its era-changing Cash on Delivery option, Flipkart gears up to initiate its one-of-a-kind Delivery of Cash service. You no longer have to visit ATMs for that much needed money! Just go online or call our ever-ready personnel to get quick cash delivered home. And pay us with a simple swipe of your card!”

Now Charge Phones Wirelessly with Paytm App

The Paytm app for Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Nokia phones got a massive update today with the the capability to charge a phone battery. All one has to do is download the app and keep it open for for 15 minutes. The app charges the phones wirelessly! You can download the apps here.
