ASCI’s new definition of celebrity now includes social media influencers

  • In its amended definition of celebrities, the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has added social media influencers with a following of at least 500,000.
  • The ASCI code contains a special rule for celebrities that states that commercials using celebrities must not contravene the code and that celebrities must be familiar with the code in letter and spirit.
