Ashok Leyland Launches India’s First Indigenous Electric Bus

Automobile major Ashok Leyland has announced the launch of its Circuit series bus, which is the country’s first indigenously made electric bus. Designed and made in India, the 100% electric bus is a zero-emission, non-polluting vehicle, created specifically for Indian roads and passenger conditions.

The vehicle is the first in the Circuit series, the company had promised a year ago, and enjoys a subsidy under the govt’s ambitious Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, which was launched in April 2014, to put seven million electric and hybrid vehicles on Indian roads by 2020.

The bus can travel 120 kms on a single charge and can tackle different topography, gradients, and usage conditions.
