DIY E-commerce Platform Bigcommerce Expands into India

E-commerce software solutions company, Bigcommerce has partnered with Indian eRetail and marketing specialists, Iksula in a step towards expanding base in India.

Bigcommerce is a Texas based startup whose SaaS based platform allows offline SMBs to start their businesses online.


Services provided to SMBs include managing inventory, multi-channel retailing, online storefronts and automated email marketing among other features. Bigcommerce powers the businesses of over 50,000 online stores across the world.

Bigcommerce had raised $40 million in funding from investment firm Revolution Growth in July 2013.

95% of SMBs are yet to establish a web presence says a Google India and FICCI report on SMBs in India. Poor adoption is mainly due to high costs of setting up involved and a lack of internet skills said the report.

Bigcommerce will have to compete against Indian rivals like Zepo and Buildabazaar. The basic packages from Zepo and Buildabazaar costs Rs 1,000 and Rs 899 each per month. Iksula will be offering Bigcommerce’s plans at prices starting from Rs 1,600/month.

Shopify India is also another peer in the space. Shopify officially entered into the Indian market through a partnership with SingTel in 2013.
