BlackBerry today announced Secure Work Space for iOS and Android, which they say will bring a solution that will separate and secure work and personal data on mobile devices. It will be managed through BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, BlackBerry’s multi-platform enterprise mobility management solution.
An update for BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 will soon extend BlackBerry security capabilities for data-at-rest and data-in-transit and provide complete separation between work and personal data. This solution will include secured client applications for email, calendar, contacts, tasks, memos, secure browsing and document editing.
Moving away from its earlier avatar of a ‘closed ecosystem’, BlackBerry is opening up and trying to encourage enterprise customers to use its services, as more and more employees seek to use their own devices for work. BlackBerry says The Secure Work Space Solution will save considerable expense and effort for companies for enterprises and governments that support BYOD policies.
BlackBerry stated that testing has already started and that the product shall be available by the end of June. Pricing has not been announced.
In a make-or-break move to regain market share and return to profit, BlackBerry introduced a new line of smartphones powered by its BlackBerry 10 operating system, earlier this year. The phone is now available in India for Rs 43,490.
Samsung had recently introduced services like Samsung Knox and SAFE (Samsung for Enterprise) as it seeks to gain enterprise customers.
