Today was the D-day (i.e. decision day) for Blackberry in India as a meeting was scheduled between Indian government and RIM to take a decision on the ongoing Blackberry issue (August 31st was announced as the blackout day for Blackberry in India).
Though complete details are not yet out, as per ET – Research in Motion has agreed to locate server in India and will provide full data access to the authorities. RIM (makers of BB) has got 60 days window after government looked at their proposal.
This is a landmark decision and expect other countries to ask Blackberry for the same. Earlier Blackberry allowed Indian government to snoop through corporate email and chat services; and setting up servers in India has just added to their low bargaining power (worldwide).
What’s your take?
