BoxTV partners with Sony Pictures & Disney UTV, More Blockbuster Movies and Hit Serials Coming

BoxTV, the streaming video service launched by the Times of India group last year, has partnered with Sony Pictures Television and Disney UTV to bring movies and television shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Lost to the Indian viewer.

The service also offers a selection of regional content in Tamil, Telugu and six other languages.

The premium video service has developed an India-centric media experience which includes unique features such as bandwidth meters, dynamic streaming and video chapters along with metadata and search, the company said on Friday.

The company has already partnered with UTV Motion Pictures, Shemaroo Entertainment Rajshri Entertainment and Everymedia Technologies for Bollywood and regional content.BoxTV

Users will be able to access BoxTV through a its apps on iOS and Android devices. Apps for Windows8, Java and Blackberry devices are being made.

According to ComScore, India gets the most number of online video views from Asia after China and Japan. Their report says that around 44.59 million unique viewers originated from India in June 2012, of which, most of the viewers were 15+ in age and either logged in from home or work stations.

YouTube India claims to have more than 5 million view everyday on its platform with two-third of its viewers in India under 35 years of age.

A survey released by Google earlier revealed that emerging consumer class (which YouTube calls ‘Generation C’ ) watch nearly 30 percent of their YouTube videos on mobile. Smartphone owners spend one quarter of their YouTube time on mobile, while tablet owners spend about 20%.
