Bangalore traffic is a mess. We all know it.
But how many of us are willing to do something about it?
While CommuteEasy is doing a great job of driving people to car pool (and decongest traffic), mapunity has gone steps ahead and has built an innovative GIS solution.
The solution (called BTIS – i.e. Bangalore Traffic Information System) provides on-road guidance to make your trips smoother. At key locations in the city, BTIS variable message systems will give you the information you would need to make your travel decisions.
For e.g. if you are traveling from MG Road to Airport road, you will see (at the signal) the approx time it will take you to reach Airport road.
You can also receive live traffic details on your phone:
Airtel users can SMS 54321 (toll free) in the following format: BTIS [areacode1] [areacode2] and send the SMS to 54321, while non-Airtel users need to sms at this number: 9845027222.
Bangaloreans – give BTIS a spin and share your comments. I am quite impressed with the service and frankly speaking, amazed at the ‘social innovation’ that mapunity is striving for.
