Buy Grocery Online in NCR Region (Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida) from FamilyKart

Started by MBA graduates from ISB & IIMs (with experience in SCM and operations), FamilyKart is an online grocery store that delivers groceries straight from the warehouse to customer’s doorstep.

Currently operational in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, the familykartstore offers products across different categories like Food & Groceries, Health & Beauty, Beverages, Household Utilities and Stationary.

The company maintains its own warehouse and delivers product directly, cutting the middle-men in the entire process and also ensuring that they are able to track orders etc.

In terms of the site, I like the overall simplicity of the site – especially the less-flashy colors used, making it readable and simple for a common man. At the same, one feature that needs special mention is multisearch, i.e. just start adding all that you would like to buy (comma separated), and you will be presented a set of result page pertaining to the product queries. That is, instead of 1 query/product, you can run multiple queries with just 1 click, resulting in saving a lot of your time (and clicks).

My only recommendation to the team (and a generic one to all the online grocery stores) – think of implementing a grid-like experience in search result page. Scrolling hurts and given the diversity in search results [i.e. a)different brands. b) different pricing c)combo plans], a normal user surely deserves a better experience.

Here is a quick QnA with Vaibhav Goel, founder of FamilyKart:

PI: Familykart delivers at doorsteps. How does the cost part pan out?

Vaibhav Goel: The cost of delivery per order ranges between 80-100 Rs . As order density improves and we establish small warehouses in each major hub of Delhi NCR this will come down to Rs. 60-70.

The response has been fairly good. People like the idea of home delivery but many are still looking for prices better than kirana stores.

PI: Future plans?

Vaibhav Goel: The market is bound to grow in next 5 years which internet penetration, double income families and fuel prices increasing and with people more busy with their professional lives. We expect that in a market such as Delhi/NCR, 10-15% of household will order groceries online by 2017 which is a very good number. The domain will see tougher competition both from new players as well as established brick and mortar players. We will stick to Delhi NCR for next 1-2 years and then add Chennai/ Pune. We are planning to expand operations in 5 major metros in India in next 5 years.

If you are in Delhi/NCR region, do give Familykart a spin and share your feedback/suggestions with the team.
