Reliance Jio Is In The Final Stages Of Rolling Out Its 4G Data Service Across India

The company is currently carrying out field tests in Reliance plants at Navi Mumbai, Jamnagar and a few other locations. It is also working hard to fulfill the minimum rollout obligation of covering 90% of its service area before August 31, 2015. A soft-launch of Reliance Jio is expected in Mid July and the company will tie up with wholesale retailers just 2-3 weeks before the official launch of its 4G data service.

Offline retailers File Case Against Government : Wants Level Playing Field On FDI Vis-a-vis E-tailers

Retailers Association of India, which represents top retailers such as Future Group, Shoppers Stop and Reliance Retail has filed a case in the Delhi High Court against the Union government with regard to the FDI norms. The offline retailers allegedly accused ecommerce giants for disrupting and upsetting their business model. TimesJobs conducted a survey in which it found that 66% of the respondents said they preferred working with a male boss, as opposed to 44% who voted for female bosses. The preference for a female boss was higher in the media & entertainment industry, with 67% respondents saying they preferred working for a female leader. However, 92% respondents working in the IT/Telecom sector say they prefer having a male boss.

AskMe Acquires BestAtLowest; To Launch AskMeGroceries

Delhi-based online platform for search- listings and deals, AskMe, has acquired online grocery portal BestAtLowest. With this acquisition, AskMe plans to enter the grocery business by integrating BestAtLowest into AskMeGroceries. The company is planning to launch AskMeGroceries later this year.

RBI Removes Mandatory 2-Factor Authentication For Low-Value Contactless Payments

Users will not be required to enter a PIN for transactions of up to Rs 2,000 using cards embedded with NFC chips. The RBI hopes the move will foster new payment technologies and enhance consumer convenience in the country. The transaction limit has been set to Rs 2,000, but banks can lower it. The RBI has also advised banks to put in place necessary velocity checks, ie. how many such small value transactions can be made with requiring AFA per day/week/month.

The Delhi government’s move to block the websites of taxi hailing aggregators like Ola, Uber seems to be an unsettled argument as ISPs expressed inability to block Uber, Ola due to high encryption codes. The ISPs can only block http sites and not the https sites due to its higher encryption codes. The ISPs cannot block the https sites of Uber and Ola, whereas TaxiForSure website can be blocked as its an http site.

Myntra Shuts Its Website And Transitions Into An App-Only Business

The move is in line with the growing importance of smartphones in the country as internet access devices. While many questions have been raised, the bottom line is that Myntra wants to show that it’s going all-in. Myntra claims its app already receives 90% of its traffic, and 70% of its revenues are channeled through the app. While the company expects some short term attrition, it isn’t too worried about it as it reiterates that jumping to the app is part of its long-term strategy.
