The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops we’ve created are destroying how society works.
No civil discourse, no cooperation; misinformation, mistruth. And it’s not an American problem — this is not about Russians ads. This is a global problem.
Says Ex Facebook exec, Chamath who now feels ‘tremendous guilty” of creating a product which is destroying the societal equations in a very meaningful way.
“I think we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works” (source).
And this comes after Sean Parker, the founding president of Facebook expressed a guilt.

There are only 2 ways to look at these ‘guilt pangs’.
- Either they really mean it. That is, nobody knew Facebook (and the ecosystem especially the rumor-machine WhatsApp) can ever get so big.
OR - They are just faking this ‘goodness’. It comes at a time when Facebook is big enough to not get impacted by such statements. They all made their money, but are now ticking a ‘I told you’ sign, to be in everyone’s good books.
Either way, you are screwed if you are super active on Facebook (did you know that the more you use Facebook, the more bad you will feel about life?)
