There are different travel websites that allow users to search, compare and book any given mode of transport from one destination to another. But what if you want to compare all the modes of transport on the basis of price, time duration and other factors to generate a rough idea of your journey. India based online travel portal Cleartrip, has just launched a multi mode route finding and booking tool which will help you with that.
Waytogo a product from Cleartrip, is a route finding and booking portal. It allows users to find, compare and book travel options for domestic and international routes, across all modes of transport, be it sea, air, road or rail.
Currently in beta, Waytogo covers more than 5 trillion routes worldwide including 2.5 million places. Options for 670 airlines and 600 ground transportation providers are available to travelers. Cleartrip has partnered with Rome2rio, an Australian startup which provides a multi-modal travel search engine.
A simple interface asks users to input worldwide destinations “From” and “To” and displays all routes, available through different modes of transport. Filters search as “Cheapest, Fastest, and Greenest” allows one to explore all possible options before finalizing one. Approximate time duration, price, and carbon footprint rating (for the eco-conscious) by the side of each transport mode makes it simple and easy to compare between them.
Another interesting feature which the website offers is availability of local transit data for intra-city commutation in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi. For instance, on searching routes from Bhatinda to Patna, portal shows seven possible routes and related time duration and tariffs. It also shows number of stops journey will have and displays all the routes on the map.
One close competitor of Waytogo is ixigo.com, an online and mobile based affiliate travel search engine. ixigo has similar functions like Waytogo but both differ in some prominent ways.
We compared both to find the key differences.
ixigo offers a complete package for finding not only travel routes and multimode transport options but hotels, restaurants, things to do, places to visit and last minute deals clubbed with real time price comparison. On the other hand Waytogo only provides options of multi mode transport in regards to all alternative routes to a destination.
However, Waytogo makes it much easier to calculate a rough estimate of the journey at a glance. It pictorially shows stops on a particular route with the mode of transport below it along with a map.
One notable feature ixigo doesn’t have is carbon footprint rating, which shows the greenest way of travelling. When it comes to locating and search routes, Waytogo seems to have a larger data repository. For instance on searching a route from London to Canada ixigo returns no information, similarly a search for intra city route in Delhi is much better on Waytogo.
As of 2012, online travel comprises of 73% of the overall digital commerce market in India, valued at Rs 34,544 cr. With Waytogo, Cleartrip is eyeing to get the customers mind share at the planning stage itself.
