It is a tough task preparing for the IIT-JEE, AIIMS, the Civil Services or any other competitive exam. It’s tougher still to decide on the coaching class which will help prepare. It should ideally be one that best suits a person, is not all hype and does not defraud. A New Delhi based startup, FindMyCoaching has developed a platform to deliver just that.
FindMyCoaching is an online platform where students can look for coaching classes in and around them and select the right one for admission, based on previous user experiences.
Founded by IITian Sushant Kochar and University of Virginia graduate Manuj Jindal, the platform claims to be the “Zomato and TripAdvisor” of the coaching market in India.
“Students rely on misleading ads from coaching institutes, incomplete information from friends, and spend inordinate amounts of time searching for coaching institutes. The process is time-consuming, expensive, inefficient and mostly based on luck. We are solving this problem,” says Sushant, who was also ranked one among top 200 hackers by InterviewStreet.
How Does FindMyCoaching Work?
FindMyCoaching generates a list of coaching institutes for 8 types of exams and those related to it. Courses range from IIT-JEE, Civil Services, Foundation Courses, to GMAT, CAT and Bank PO exams.
The coaching institute list generated also has reviews and ratings. Apart from this, FindMyCoaching also ranks each institute against the total number of coaching institutes in an area for a particular course. In addition, students also get discounts on institutes if they join via FindMyCoaching.
Other information provided on the platform include fee, successful student records, teacher qualifications, years in operation, total students per batch, course material and more.
Sourcing and Verifying Coaching Institutes
FindMyCoaching has over 600 active coaching institutes on their portal. They assist 5-6 students on a daily basis in finding coaching institutes.
To verify coaching institutes, FindMyCoaching mandates the following process:
Meet coaching institutes enlisted
Vet all data provided with students and competitors
“Our information collection and verification process is exhaustive. This helps students to pick the right institute for their preparation in an otherwise congested and misinformed market,” says Manuj, co-founder of FindMyCoaching.
The company follows a freemium model currently for listings from both coaching institutes as well as students. The company monetises off of referral fees from coaching institutes.
“We charge a fee from coaching institutes for referring students to them. We keep the process transparent by providing the students with all the possible information for courses they are enrolling for. We let them decide, regardless of our view, where they want to take the admission,” says Manuj.
On the pipeline is the digitising of course material and test series’ from coaching institutes that FindMyCoaching will distribute to students for a fee. The feature is set to be launched by the end of March 2014.
Started on 14 February 2014, FindMyCoaching currently lists centers from Delhi. The company expects access to over a 1,000 institutes by the end of March 2014 with the addition of Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Noida.
“We will be expanding to Kota next. Consequently, we also will add Mumbai, Hyderabad, Patna, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and other education hubs in the country to our portal,” says Manuj.
FindMyCoaching is run by a 5 member team and is currently bootstrapped.
