If you are a geek, chances are, you love graphic novels. If you do, you must check out the newly launched Comics Circle App on the iTunes store. The app is not just for readers, but also for indie creators who wish to showcase their comics. Which means, you might even be the first to read the next Niel Gaiman from India.
The Comic Circle app is a storefront to showcase and sell content from Indian publishers. The Indian comics community, small yet needs a platform like this, feels Abhishek Gureja, the Director of Winjit Digital Publishing, which has launched the app.
Creators with even a single publication can showcase their product here. Comics Circle has already signed up Campfire, Holy Cow, Manta Ray, Champak from the Delhi Press, Jazyl, Orange Radius, Chariot Comics, Vanayu and is in talks with ACK media. Creators and publishers can price their content as they wish.
The app sorts content based on genre and publishers. Each comic gives you 3 preview pages and complete information on the publisher, creator, art, writer, illustrator and allows users to rank the content.
The user can also write to a publisher with feedback about a particular comic.
Comics Circle will release BoxView technology as part of its first update, where all comics can be read pane by pane in a chronological order. The platform also has pencil and eraser tools for you to scribble on your comic. Publications like Champak have Q&A’s, quizzes and maze puzzles.
The App is currently available on iOS. A Windows & Android app is being developed and will be released by the first quarter of 2014. You can download it here.
Gureja is a big believer of content powering the app ecosystem in India. Apps can be used not only to monetize new content but old content as well, Gureja told NextBigWhat in an earlier interview.
