Compared: Google Play Books Vs. Flipkart Vs. Amazon Kindle

Earlier today, Google finally added ebooks to its Play Store for Indian users.

We decided to compare the pricing on Google Play Books with existing players the Flipkart’s Flyte and Amazon’s Kindle. We chose 15 books across genres and categories randomly.

We found that from the e-books we chose, most seemed to be cheapest on Amazon and that in a lot of cases the prices between Flyte and Google Play were either the same or varied by just a few rupees.

Flyte seemed to have to least varied catalogue, but it is still a beta product.

Books downloaded via Google Play can be read across various platforms like Android, iOS, the Web, and most e-book readers. e-books from Flyte can only be read on the Flyte Android app.

Apart from Kindle devices, e-books from Amazon can be read on Android, iOS, Mac, Window PCs, BlackBerry, or Windows Phone but only with the support of official companion apps.

While Google Play and Flyte offered prices in Indian rupees, Amazon displayed the prices in dollars and only displayed the pricing in rupees at checkout or one the e-book is selected in the mobile apps.

Below is the list of e-books we compared and their pricing on the three stores.Google Play Books ComparedIn a quick poll six months ago, we found that 35% of respondents were ready to switch to ebooks if they get a massive discount.
