Food blogging platform, cucumbertown has shutdown. The company raised funding from 500startups earlier and was acquired by Japan based Cookpad in 2015.
“We worked hard to make food blogging a livelihood through our platform but the stakeholders could no longer see a sustainable business around it. It’s been a great journey, and we’re proud of the impact and grateful to the community that helped make it possible so far.” [blog]
That leaves food bloggers with very little option, but to depend on Facebook (or WordPress) for community / content sharing.
Question to Cucumbertown team : Raised money too early? Got acquired too early?
Community plays (like NextBigWhat) are a little long term and the reality is that investors don’t really have this sort of patience.
So maybe, a good idea to stay independent and raise only at your terms and condition?
