Digital advertising in India grew at 30% in 2013 to touch Rs 2,520 cr, according to a new report. Advertising spend on digital media is expected to grow 35% in 2014, said the report by commissioned by FICCI.
The growth is fueled by the increasing Internet on mobile. Mobile Internet users dominated the Internet usage with an overall share of 61%, said the report. In total, the report pegged the Internet user base in India at 214 million. This is nearly twice as much as it was last year.
Meanwhile, the print media market grew at a CAGR of 8.5% in 2013 to R 24,300 cr. “As we move into FY15, we anticipate an enhanced polarization of ad-spend skew towards the number one & two print publications in all markets,” the report said.
In all, India’s media and entertainment industry grew at 12% to Rs 92,000 cr in 2013, as compared to 12.6 % growth in 2012.
As we’d written sometime ago, while digital advertising is only a small portion of the total advertising market in India, it will continue its fast paced growth at the cost of print advertising.
