The investment helps the company enter an exclusive club of startups valued in excess of $1bn while also showing how important Silicon Valley considers the drone market to be in the future.
News of Accel’s investment in DJI comes soon after rumours of the Chinese company looking to raise funding at a value of $10 bn broke, stunning a few industry watchers.
DJI is the top drone maker in the world, and is expecting sales to hit $1 billion this year, compared to $180 million in 2013, showing just how rapidly the market for them is increasing.
The $75 million investment from Accel is one of the biggest for DJI, and will certainly go towards growing scale as well as innovation to ward off an attack from rivals which will soon include GoPro.
