NTT DoCoMo and France Tele eyeing Tata’s stake in TTSL

NTT DoCoMo and France Telecom are eyeing a stake in Tata Teleservices Ltd. Tata Group is expected to dilute it’s stake for around Rs 5,000 crore.

It is also not clear as to the exact stake which the partner will pick up. The figure of Rs 5,000 crore assumes a stake sale in the region of 12%. However, a number of industry sources following the transaction said the bids were for a 26% holding, involving a pay-out (for the investor) of around Rs 10,000 crore. When contacted, a TTSL spokesperson said: “We are in discussions with several players for off-loading a minority stake in our company and cannot comment any further on speculative queries.”  [ET]

Telenor close to pickup 26% stake in Unitech Wireless

Norway based Telenor, which is planning an Indian foray is eyeing 26% stake in Unitech Wireless, the telecom arm of real estate firm Unitech for around $500 mn. [source]

The company had shortlisted three telecom players including Telenor, Telecom Italia and a South-East Asia-based telecom firm for the last lap of negotiations. The deal with the Asian telco didn’t make much headway, while negotiations with Telecom Italia reached a dead-end after the European player stuck to a valuation of $1 bn for Unitech Wireless.

Also, IPTV Guidelines has been issued by govt. and we will cover that in the next post.
