Flipkart Music Store goes live – DRM Free, Price Starting Rs. 6

’s digital music store, Flyte as we reported earlier has gone live now. The songs start at Rs. 6/only and is DRM free/can be synced across multiple devices. Flipkart’s music service is result of acquisition of a Mumbai based startup, Mime360 and bollywood catalogue from Chakpak.

From our earlier coverage:

Using Flyte, you will be able to download the tracks (including the first purchase download) only 5 times  3 more times after the initial download. The service is powered by Mime360, the company that Flipkart acquired earlier and manages streaming for labels like Saregama, Indiatimes, Universal etc and services sites like Gaana.com, iMusti etc. Of course, Flipkart Wallet is the best supporting friend of Flytei.e. enabling small transactions of Rs. 6/, Rs. 10/ etc.

Now that Songs.pk is officially banned in India, are you willing to shell out Rs. 143/ for albums like Agent Vinod? Well, its a new beginning for the company and rest assured they are getting into a ‘soft’ territory of legal/illegal downloads in the bad world of music labels and the *mafia*.

Aside,a quick note on SEO: As with any Flipkart launch, there is a great bit of SEO that has been done – i.e. instead of calling Flyte as Flipkart.com/Flyte (i.e. by brand name), the URL is /mp3-downloads (read Flipkart Story to get more contextual information on Flipkart’s smart play with SEO).

What next? Mobile apps for Flyte.

– more on Flyte once we have spent some more time on it. Meanwhile, please share any insight/observation you come across (especially with respect to pricing).
