In response to a query, Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar said that 4.2% of the Indian population has paid income tax in 2015-16, which is a sharp three times increase as compared to 2012.
He also added that government has identified 1.36 crore Indians, who have tax liabilities but have evaded filing.
