Online marketplace eBay Inc is in talks with the Indian government to get “exporter” status for products online retailers abroad so they can claim tax and customs benefits.

According to a news report, Latif Nathani, eBay’s India head is meeting officials in the ministry of commerce on behalf of retailers seeking these exemptions.

By becoming an exporter, online retailers can be at par with other domestic exporters, reduce overheads and access cheap and easy credit, reported The Hindu Businessline.

eBay says that a domestic seller makes a sale every 10 seconds to an overseas buyer. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Federation of Indian Export Organizations to deal with such issues.
