Delhi based Edukart, an online education startup, has raised $500,000 in seed funding from Kima Ventures, AKM Systems, One97 and angel investors.
Edukart, founded in 2011 by Ishan Gupta, an alumnus of Stanford and Mayank Gupta, an IIM-K alumnus, sells courses online. The company offers courses in different sectors including retail, finance, digital marketing and programming.
This is the second Indian startup Kima Ventures has backed. Bangalore based Codelearn had raised $150,000 from Kima Ventures four months ago. France based Kima Ventures has backed a bunch of online learning companies.
As digital consumption rises, online eduction is being hailed as the next big thing in the Internet world. It drastically cuts cost of mass education and certification. As classroom teaching becomes costlier, massive open online courses (moocs) are gaining popularity.
Companies like Dezyre.com, Dexler Information Solutions Simplilearn, LurnQ and many others are into the space. Last year we saw quite a few of them raise funds. Simplilearn raised funds from Indo US Venture Partners, LurnQ raised funds from Seedfund in August, Liqvid was backed by SBI Holdings and Arus Networks raised Angel funding from the Indian Angel Network.
