Report: Workers spend 28% time on Email [Opportunity for Social tools]

Email is not dead yet.

And the truth is that email usage in corporate has increased and an average interaction worker spends an estimated 28% of the workweek managing e-mail and nearly 20 percent looking for internal information or tracking down colleagues who can help with specific tasks.email_usage_corporate

But when companies use social media internally, messages become content; a searchable record of knowledge can reduce, by as much as 35%, the time employees spend searching for company information (as per a report by McKinsey Research).

Email is an overload. Email kills your productivity. Having said that, the truth is that you still need email, because it’s the primary communication channel between you and the other party. What email lacks is a prioritized recipient and that’s precisely why there still is an opportunity to do an email startup (read: Why Still Do an Email Startup?).

Will social tools (like Yammer etc) ever replace Email? Well, your guess is as good as mine but for sure, you might just be dependent on that ‘email notification’ of the conversation happening in the social tools!

Social tools, however decrease the to-and-fro discussions, though a lot of such discussions are still triggered by notifications that arrive in your inbox!

Is Email dying? No. The answer is lying in your Inbox!
