The Drugs Controller General of India issued a circular on Monday and said that action will be taken again the e-pharmacies who violate the rules. The companies need to follow Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
No ban on online sales of medicines has been imposed but drugs cannot be sold without a doctor’s prescription.
A sub-committee had been formed under the chairmanship of Dr Harshadeep Kamble, commissioner, Food and Drugs administration, Maharashtra who is examining the impact of these sales. [source]
