EU supports US tech giants in storing European user data on US servers

  • The Trans-Atlantic Data Privacy Framework has been approved by the European Union, enabling US companies to store European user data in the US.
  • The Framework sets up a Data Protection Review Court in the US for addressing European user data privacy rights complaints and also restricts data access by US intelligence agencies.
  • Although meta may face a substantial fine, the new deal shields them from having to delete any data; however, legal challenges to the agreement are anticipated.
