Facebook Working On A Twitter-Like App For Breaking News

The app is part of the Facebook for Businesses initiative is currently being alpha tested. Users will follow publications they like and topics they want to receive alerts about. Publications will be able to send notifications to all their followers in the case of breaking news. These mobile alerts will be restricted to 100 characters of text and a url.

Facebook is apparently working on a standalone news app that could function similar to Twitter exclusive to news publications.

The app which is part of the Facebook for Businesses initiative is currently being alpha tested by folks in a select few companies that were selected for the program.

According to Business Insider, users will follow the partnering publications they like and topics they want to receive alerts about.

Alternately, publications will also be able to push notifications that will be sent to all their followers in the case of breaking news.

The mobile alerts will be restricted to 100 characters of text and a url that links to the news publication’s website.
