Facebook‘s FbStart picks up Indian startup, Healofy for $40K sponsorship

Pregnancy-newborn care app Healofy has been selected by Facebook to be a part of FBStart, a global program by the company that provides assistance to startups. As part of the program, Healofy will receive $40,000 to build, grow, and monetize the application.

Started by IIT-Guwahati alumni Gaurav Aggarwal and former Flipkart employee Shubham Maheshwari, Healofy acts like a virtual doctor, providing new parents with health tips and experiences. The startup will also receive mentoring from Facebook’s engineering teams, as part of the program. (Source)

Satya Nadella: ‘We Clearly Missed the Mobile Phone’

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at a recent conference admitted that his company missed the rise of mobile phones, a space now dominated by Android and iOS. “We clearly missed mobile. There is no question,” Nadella said, adding that they won’t make the same mistake with augmented reality and virtual reality.

Fashion discovery app Wooplr raises undisclosed amount of funding from Astarc Ventures

Online fashion discovery platform Wooplr has raised an undisclosed amount funding from Astarc Ventures. The investment comes in the backdrop of a funding the company raised in March this year from the Co-founders of InMobi, Naveen Tewari, Abhay Singhal, and Amit Gupta, InMobi Chief Product Officer Piyush Shah, TaxiForSure Co-founder Raghunandan G, and ex-Puma India CEO Rajiv Mehta.

Wooplr was founded in 2013 by Praveen Rajaretnam, Arjun Zacharia, Soumen Sarkar, and Ankit Sabharwal as a platform to help users shop better based on location, occasion, interests and friends.

Homegrown manufacturer Videocon launches Ultra50 smartphone at Rs 8,990

After launching Cube 3 last month, the company launched its flagship Ultra50 smartphone priced at Rs. 8,990. The phone will be available offline and on online platforms from the first week of November. It has been launched in Space Grey and Gold colour variants.

Videocon Ultra50 comes with a 5-megapixel selfie camera LED flash, VoLTE support, fingerprint sensor, and has dual-SIM capabilities. The device comes with the ‘SOS-Be Safe’ emergency response app, has 32GB internal memory and houses 3,000mAh battery.
