Facebook has announced the launch Facebook Lite, a stripped-down version of its Android app targeted at users in developing markets where data is expensive and speeds are slow.

The low-resolution app works on outdated smartphones, utilises far lesser data than the standard Facebook app, and occupies less than 1MB of storage space.

The move to launch Facebook Lite is in line with the company’s goal to connect the next billion users, who in all probability reside in the developing parts of the world. fblitephoto_english

Facebook will begin rolling out Facebook Lite across Asia as off immediately and the service will soon reach Latin America, Africa and parts of Europe.
