Just last month Facebook started allowing non-Facebook users in to sign up for its Messenger service, but the was limited to US, Canada, Venezuela and Peru.

Now, the company has expanded the functionality globally. All users need to do to sign up for Messenger is provide their full name and phone number, much like WhatsApp.

Users will even be able to search for people who are on the social network but might have not shared their numbers with.

The announcement was made by Messenger team member David Marcus on Facebook.
