Facebook Taps into The Community Knowledge- Launches Facebook Questions

Facebook has launched an official QnA app called Facebook Questions. The feature is rolled out to limited users who will see “Ask Question” button at the top of their homepage. Users can click on the button and submit a question like they write on wall. Each question can be accompanied with a photo or a poll. Essentially this would this just like any other status update for the user except for it is done through this app and hence is categorized as question.

FB questionsThis move will help Facebook get a lot of natural traffic through search engines as all questions and answers posted using the Questions application are public and visible to everyone on the Internet. Certainly a very serious move towards owning the content. The app also asks you to “Tag” your questions so this means better targeting to get the answers as FB already knows a lot about what you “Like”.

Remember each answer to any question is a transaction (of knowledge) and hence it can be charged and monetized, without depending on ad revenues.

What next for FaceBook? What next for social web? Do you think it will be as popular as Yahoo Answers?
