Facebook has announced the launch of ‘M’ – it’s virtual assistant service built into its instant messaging app Messenger.
M is Facebook’s answer to Siri, Google Now and Cortana and while it’s based on artificial intelligence, it will be supervised by actual humans.
The announcement was made via a Facebook post by David Marcus who heads Messenger over at the company, along with a brief description.
One of the best tricks of M will be its ability to find and purchase goods on your behalf or make restaurant reservations, make travel arrangements, etc.
You can simply ask for dining recommendations or gifting ideas for a friend and with a few taps M takes care of the whole process for you.
Facebook is currently testing M for a few hundred users and says it’s still in the early days of building scale into the service.
