Fashion&You, the ecommerce company which acquired UrbanTouch some six months ago, has shut down the UrbanTouch portal and is directing traffic to its site. According to a notice on UrbanTouch.com, the company has now integrated its operations with Fashionandyou.com, the flash sales site owned by Smile Group.
Abhishek Goyal, who had taken over at FashionandYou is on his way out. Goyal who was the Chief Executive Officer of UrbanTouch had taken over at FashionandYou after the acquisition, filling the seat left vacant by co-founder Pearl Uppal who’d quit earlier.
NextBigWhat had reported on Goyal’s possible exit a month ago. FashionandYou, which is in advanced talks for a merger with Pepperfry is most likely to appoint Pepperfry’s CEO Ambarish Murthy to head the company. Murthy was the former head of eBay in India.
Fashionandyou has had its share of controversies over the last few months with nasty comments about the company, its work culture and top management feuds, making it into social networks.
Three months ago, some dirty laundry was washed very publicly. According to comments that surfaced on question answer site Quora, what transpired was nothing short of a boardroom Texas chain saw massacre.
“Goyal, sidelined Smile Group founder Harish Bahl and laid off the entire technology team in Bangalore along with Chief Financial Officer Sumit Gupta,” the Quora post said. It also said that Bahl called an all hands except one (Goyal) meeting and questioned the investors on the appointment of Goyal.
