#flipkart eBooks, which celebrated its first anniversary on November 28th, has introduced Text to Speech on the Android app, a feature very helpful for the visually challenged, along with a bunch of other features on their apps across platforms.
By default the Text to Speech functionality is available on iOS, but was mission on the stock Android platform.
This set of new features is the first major update and facelift the Flipkart eBooks native app is seeing after their launch, on the Android 2.0, iOS and Win 8 app, in August this year.
As a part of the celebrations, the store will also offer 1 Lakh eBooks at price of Rs 99 or less.
With the new version of the eBook reader apps, users are no longer limited to the ebooks on the Flipkart store, they can now side load their own books from other sources too.
An new feature called “Book Stand” has been added to the iOS reader app, which is completely iOS7 compatible.
Users can also switch the reading mode (day, night and sepia), font size and orientation (landscape/portrait), highlight text, take notes, bookmark pages and refer to a dictionary while reading on the app.
The Flipkart eBook reader app also provides full support for regional languages in the digital format.
There have also been a bunch of new feature additions to the web reader as well. Previously users were only able to read ebooks connected to Internet, but with the new update the web reader will also support offline mode. User can now download a book when online and read it even when offline.
The web app also comes with all the features provided on the mobile app like reading mode, notes, highlights, bookmarks, font size etc. The Flip Sync technology also ensures that all the users reading behaviors (notes, highlights, bookmarks, last read location) are synced across the apps.
