Flipkart eBooks, which was launched in November 2012, has announced the launch of three more apps for its users. While Flipkart’s eBooks have been available through an android app, they can now be downloaded and read through iOS and Windows Phone apps on Windows Store as well as on a browser through a Web Reader, the e-commerce company said. The app will be pre-installed on upcoming Nokia Lumia devices.
Features of the eBook Apps include
- FlipSync: This technology automatically syncs the last read location, highlights, notes and bookmarks across every device one has ever used to log in to the Flipkart eBooks app.
- FlipThru: Using FlipThru, one gets to read 10% of the eBook even before buying it
- Smooth purchase experience: The ability to purchase and read, seamlessly, from within the app (android/Win8/browser). Ofcourse, iOS is not in the list owing to revenue sharing that app developers need to have with Apple.
- Personalized reading experience – Readers can control their reading experience by selecting their preferred reading mode (day, night and sepia), font size, orientation (landscape/portrait) etc.
Flipkart which recently raised $200mn already has 2.5 lakh titles on the site and aims to increase this to 10 lakhs by year-end. And all of these can now be read by a customer, through any smartphone, tablet or PC.
Important to note that Flipkart ebooks are in proprietary format and you cannot print, copy, side-load (move from one device to another), email or save images.
